Here's a high quality 1981 US spec FJ40. I purchased this truck for a customer back in 2011. I've spent some hours behind the wheel over the years and she's one of my favorites. She runs quiet, with excellent power and drives great!

1981 FJ40's are rare with only about 2500 units being sold in the US that year.  The truck possess Toyota's final improvements including a redesigned steering wheel, optional OEM power steering,  3.70 gears, improved emergency brake design, improved transfer case providing a quieter ride and a larger fuel tank relocated beneath the cargo area.

Over the past few years, this FJ40 has received over $20K in documented improvements and upgrades like factory power steering consisting of all new OEM parts. Up front there's a new Cool Cruisers "shorty" front bumper with a never used Warn 8274 winch. A complete new Old Man Emu suspension has been fitted and the truck sports 31x10.50 BFG All Terrains KO2's with less than 985 miles wrapped around sparkling FJ60 chrome wheels with center caps in the rear and on the spare. A new Red Top Optima battery. A complete exterior repaint in her original 033 white and a new OEM stock hard top with 100% new OEM roof gaskets, side gaskets, window and door weatherstripping and a new headliner.

The stock 4.2L 2F original engine and 4-speed transmission operate perfectly and she and retains all her original emission equipment. New clutch plate, pressure plate and throwout bearing. Brakes front and rear have been serviced. New knuckle bearings, wheel bearings, axle seals and new tie rod ends.

 

All the glass is perfect with a new windshield. The front seats have been recovered and the jump seats retain their original upholstery. The floors are covered with the original front Toyota floor coverings in beautiful condition. The rear cargo mat is after market. Between the front seats you'll find a Tuffy locking console. The truck retains the original working AM radio. The dash pads have no cracks or issues and the dash is uncut. All gauges and controls operate as they should. The truck does not have the optional rear heater or air conditioning.

Always stored in a heated garage, the body and frame are near perfect and rust free. There's a very small dent at the bottom of the passenger door which pictured in the gallery. The truck comes with all the keys, service records since 2016, factory jack, jack rods, original Owners manual and toolkit. She's a beautiful example that's been lovingly upgraded, improved, maintained and driven sparingly.
